BEST MIDWEEK GATE FOR MORE THAN EIGHT YEARS INSPIRES COUNTY TO SENSATIONAL VICTORY
Last night’s sensational comeback-victory against old rivals Southport saw County join Chorley at the summit of the National League North table.
And, once again, the never-say-die Hatters were helped along the way by the phenomenal support from the Blue & White Army.
Despite trailing 2-0, the unwavering vocal backing from three sides of Edgeley Park inspired Jim Gannon’s men to three more priceless points, extending their post-war unbeaten League run to a fantastic 14 games.
And the bumper 3,724 attendance set another record – the biggest gate for a Tuesday night game in SK3 for more than eight years.
The previous best came during our Football League days when 4,092 watched our 1-1 draw with Chesterfield on February 1, 2011.
Since Boxing Day, our average attendance is a terrific 4,242 which is higher than the average at no fewer than 20 Football League clubs; seven in League One with another 13 in League Two.
Commenting on the incredible
support from the County faithful, chairman Richard Park said: “Incredibly, last night’s gate was bigger than the first home game after
we dropped into the Conference!
“I cannot thank the fans enough for the way they have stood by the club
through some difficult times, and hopefully this current record-breaking run of
form and results is some reward.
“There is still a long way to go, but we are delighted with our progress
both on and off the pitch, and it was incredible to hear the noise around the
ground last night, even when we were two goals behind.”
Last night’s attendance was boosted by around 700 childen joining us as part of
our free ticket initiative.
Commercial Manager Simon Dawson said: “This is something that really works
and we would like to thank the Vernon Building Society for their continued
support and the club’s Community Foundation for their valued input.
“There is also an incredible parallel initiative that has been instigated
by the Supporters’ Cooperative, which means more than two thousand extra kids
will be coming to EP this season as a result of their efforts.”
