Title winner Jennings joins Hartlepool

The Club can confirm that striker Connor Jennings has today completed a permanent transfer to League Two Hartlepool United.

Connor leaves Edgeley Park having made 75 appearances over two separate spells with the Club, scoring 18 goals and winning the National League title last season.

He provided one of the most emotional moments Edgeley Park has ever seen last season. Having taken time away from football after being diagnosed with chondroid sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, CJ capped a fairytale return to first-team action by scoring at the Cheadle End in his first game back, against King’s Lynn Town.

Connor has made a further 13 appearances for the Club this season, scoring twice, before enjoying a productive loan spell at National League side Altrincham.

Stockport born and bred and a National League champion, Connor leaves with the best wishes of everyone at the football club and we wish him the best of luck in the future. We hope to welcome him back to Edgeley Park again soon, to celebrate his time with the Club.

Connor Jennings said:

“It’s been a real rollercoaster since joining my home-town club. What Mark Stott, Simon Wilson & Co have done in that time has been truly remarkable and I’m pleased to have played a small part on that journey.

“It’s been a difficult few years on and off the pitch but to leave knowing the Club is on the way up, it’s a good feeling. A special thank you to all the County fans for all the support you’ve given to me and the lads, as well as to everyone connected with this special Club. I can’t wait to come back and watch again as a fan in the near future.”

Director of Football, Simon Wilson said:

“Connor was one of the first signings we made after coming in to the building. When we proposed the move, coming ‘home’ after several successful seasons with Tranmere, we pitched it as a story he could tell his grandkids one day and it has certainly been that. The life of a footballer is always filled with ups and downs, but Connor has had it in extremes.

“It has been a privilege to get to know him and have him be part of the Club during this time. I am sure just like everyone at the County, our supporters will have been inspired by the way he has tackled his health scare and returned to the pitch, scoring goals and playing a part in the success we had last season. When presented with this opportunity, it was something he wanted to do and I’ve got no doubt the other players in the dressing room at Hartlepool will be thankful for his arrival.

“He is someone who demands the highest standards from himself and the others around him and is a winner. We will miss him being around, but he leaves with strong friendships and memories built and is someone always welcome back.”
