There’s a trend there for big improvement from this point so we took a closer look and wonder if history is about to repeat itself.
Was it really only a year ago that the team were way down in 11th place in the National League North, having already lost more matches than they’d won? We all knew what happened next.
The year before, things actually appeared bleaker. Way down in 14th with 14 points from their first eleven games eventually the side came good and secured a worthy fifth place finish.
County ended the 2016-17 season in eighth but also got better. Six weeks in to that campaign they were 11th.
So what exactly can we read into a start in the National League? Let’s revisit last September.
Well, after 11 matches the team leading the way were Harrogate Town with 25 points and seven wins. They ended the season down in sixth. Wrexham were second but they finished in fifth and limped out in the play-offs in the Eliminator.
Eventual champions Leyton Orient were third with Salford City, who would go on to take the second promotion slot, sitting just behind them.
