Winger bolsters Challinor’s squad

We are pleased to announce the signing of winger Myles Hippolyte, who joins the Club from League Two Scunthorpe United on a free transfer.

The 27-year-old, who has previously played in the National League whilst at Yeovil Town, became available to the Club earlier this week and has now signed a deal until the end of the season.

Myles began his footballing career as a young pro at Brentford, before spending time in non-league with spells at Southall, Tamworth and Hayes and Yeading. Comfortable on both feet with the pace and trickery to take on opponents, he is capable of playing on the left-hand side or through the middle as a number 10.

In 2014, he made the move north of the border to join Scottish Championship side Livingston, and would go on to make over 200 appearances in Scottish Football for a range of clubs.

The forward won the Scottish Challenge Cup in 2015 during his time at Livingstone, and was part of the St Mirren side that won promotion to the Scottish Premier League in 2018 – either side of a successful spell at Falkirk that saw him score 15 goals in 66 appearances.

After a season at Dunfermline, Myles then returned to English football after joining Yeovil, following their relegation to the National League. He scored five times in 31 appearances for the Glovers as they reached the play-offs, before signing for Scunthorpe that Summer for an undisclosed fee.

He has been in fine recent form in recent weeks for the Iron too following the appointment of manager Keith Hill, with his performances seeing him nominated for the League Two Player of the Month award for December – despite the side struggling at the bottom of the Football League. He leaves the club having scored five times in 55 appearances.

First-Team Manager Dave Challinor said:

“The opportunity to get Myles in is a great one for us. He knows the level and the level above us. His versatility will be massively important, and give us good balance being naturally left sided. His energy, athleticism and ability to travel with the ball will undoubtedly add to the strength of the squad.”

Director of Football Simon Wilson said:

“Myles is an athletic and versatile addition to the squad and joins for the 2021/22 run in. He is a player we were surprised to see available, however have taken advantage to support a busy games programme as we continue to compete on multiple fronts.”
