Academy October Update

County Academy have enjoyed an eventful October, including Scholar games against Wrexham and Accrington, a first-team game against Salford, a training session at Carrington, a visit from Tanto Olaofe and Akil Wright and a trip to the Etihad Campus.

County Academy Scholars Captain Jack Kenny gives his thoughts on an eventful October at Stockport Sports Village, and what we can expect for the rest of the season…


On the Pitch

Wrexham (A)

County ran out 2-1 winners against Wrexham in the EFL Youth Alliance North West League, as Kylan Depiazza scored a second-half brace. The home side scored a late penalty, but proved too little, too late. Read more about the victory here, or watch the highlights below:

Accrington (H)

County were back in EFL Youth Alliance League action, as the young Hatters welcomed Accrington Stanley to Carrington. The away side scored a late winner and emerged 2-1 victors, despite a Freddie Redshaw wonder goal. Read more about the game here, or watch the highlights below:


Player Progression

Salford (A)

Scholars Kingston Fligg, Luke Partington, Ashton Mee, Joe Hillary, Jack Kenny, Harry Johnson and Taylor McMahon all featured for County’s first-team in the EFL Trophy at Salford this month, with Ashton Mee grabbing an assist, and County winning 3-1.

 

 

Training at Carrington

Our Academy Scholars were presented with the opportunity to train at Carrington this month. This allowed our squad to get a feel for the environment, in preparation for their league and cup games at the venue.


Personal Development

Kick It Out Workshop

Our Academy Scholars were visited by Kick It Out this month. This workshop highlighted the importance of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion within sport, and what we can do to make football as inclusive as we can.

 

Sporting Chance Workshop

Our Academy Scholars were visited by Sporting Chance this month, as this highlighted the importance of mental health within the game. This also covered important topics such as addiction and the use of social media.


Junior Academy

Tanto & Akil Black History Month Workshop

First-team players Tanto Olaofe and Akil Wright delivered a workshop to our U14 & U15 players on the importance of Black History Month, as part of the County Collective initiative. They also took part in a training session with out U9 & U10 sides.

 

U16 – Man City (A)

Our U16 side travelled to the Etihad Campus this month, as they featured in a friendly against Manchester City. This experience was invaluable, as our young Hatters were able to test themselves against Category 1 Academy opposition.
