As part of our ‘Celebrating Success’ series at Stockport County Academy, we caught up with our March Player of the Month winner: Toby Green.
In the interview we spoke with Toby about his recent performances, County & Town, and his targets for the rest of the season.
Toby congratulations on winning March’s Player of the Month. How do you feel?
TG: Yeah, buzzing to have been given Player of the Month. Being recognised is always good but it is even better to be given it here at County, as I know how high the standard is and the quality of everyone in the programme.
Since your return from injury, you have been a key player for both the Academy 2nd Year team and Stockport Town, receiving praise from both Damien Allen and Paul Turnbull. How does it feel to hear that?
TG: I picked up an injury pushing a month ago now, which was a bit of a kick in the teeth as I was in good form and things like the FA Trophy game for first team, were fast approaching. I worked hard with my rehab and was back quicker than I thought, scoring two on my first game back for Town.
You recently played in the Cheshire Cup, making your debut for the first team. What was that experience like?
TG: Making my debut in the Cheshire cup was just unreal. All the hard work throughout the last two years led up to this so it was good to finally get my chance.
The end of your second year is fast approaching. What are your targets for the end of the season, both on the pitch and with your career?
TG: With the end of the season fast approaching, I think it’s important we just make the most of our time together as a group and keep getting results on the pitch.
And finally, with your time here at the academy so far, what would you say has been your favourite moment?
TG: If I had to choose my best moment so far in the last two years, I think I’d have to choose the FA Youth Cup game at South Shields. Even though I got crunched into in the first 8 minutes and had to come off, the boys played unbelievable, and the journey home was one to remember.
