As part of our ‘Celebrating Success’ series at Stockport County Academy, we have our Student of the Month award for February. Oliver Wardle has been selected as the winner, for his consistent top work, his attitude and for helping others. Academy Welfare Officer Ryan Jones caught up with Oliver about the award.
So, Oliver, thanks for joining me today! And congratulations on winning the February Student of the Month award at Stockport County Academy. How do you feel?
OW: It’s a great feeling knowing I’m getting noticed for the effort I put into my work, and it motivates me to carry on working hard at this level.
When you’re getting praise from your tutors who have said that the work you have done so far has been exceptional, how does that make you feel?
OW: It’s good to hear praise from the tutors for the hard work I put in and it makes me want to carry on putting in the effort and developing my skills.
So, we are now well into your first year at the academy, what are you currently enjoying about your course?
OW: Personally, I’ve enjoyed the refereeing unit and can’t wait to move on to the coaching unit as well, as it is something I would like to develop myself in further.
With your time here at the academy to date, what would you say has been your favourite moment? Both with education and football?
OW: On the education side of things, I have really enjoyed learning about the body and the adaptations it makes in the short term and long term of exercise. While in football I would say the big 4-1 win in the derby at the start of the month was a great highlight!
And lastly Oliver, what are your personal targets for the academy year and beyond?
OW: My personal targets for the future are being able to progress further. Not just my footballing ability but also in my education, whilst also enjoying my time here at the Academy to the full.
