Aldershot Bucket Collection

We are pleased to welcome Stockport & District Samaritans to Edgeley Park on Wednesday evening to carry out a bucket collection.

Samaritans is a charity working to reduce the number of people who take their own lives and make sure there is someone here for anyone who is going through a difficult time.

Every life lost to suicide is a tragedy, and Samaritans’ vision is that fewer people die by suicide. Together we can make a change that saves lives. We believe that suicide is preventable.

Samaritans is here for anyone struggling to cope – day or night, 365 days a year. We take action to prevent people reaching crisis point, helping people find ways to cope and learn the skills to be there for others. In Stockport we take about approx. 25,000 calls and emails per year, and we are all highly trained volunteers – there are 100 volunteers giving 17,000+ hours of their time supporting other and many more hours doing talks and outreach in the community at the Stockport branch based in Heaton Moor.

Three times more people die by suicide than die in road traffic accidents in the UK. Stockport and surrounding areas, has a higher than national suicide rate.

Why we need your support.

Even though we are all volunteers we ourselves need to raise £25,000 to run the Branch every year – rent, general office costs and, of course, the phone bill. We don’t receive any direct national or government funding.

The demand for our service is increasing. We now have a freephone number; email and texts have also risen dramatically, and Webchat will soon be available to our callers also.

Thank you in advance for any donations you are able to make.

Your support is going to make such a difference.
