Cashy and the team pick up award

The hard work of Head Groundsman Liam Cash and his team was recognised at the Grounds Management Association Awards last night, as they were announced as winners of the Professional Football Grounds Team of the Year award.

The award is presented for having the best sports turf management at a football club, outside of the men’s Premier League and Championship in England, and men’s Premier League in Scotland.

County were nominated for the trophy this year alongside League One sides, Wigan Athletic and Derby County, beating both to be named as winners at last night’s award ceremony at Headingley Stadium in Leeds.

Cashy and his team do superb work in ensuring the Edgeley Park turf is in pristine condition week in, week out, with the award deserved recognition for their efforts. Congratulations, guys!

Head Groundsman, Liam Cash said:

“To be in the final stages for an award like this was great recognition for the lads, but to win it is extra special. We always aim to produce a pitch that everyone can be proud of.

“The pitch can be a representation of the club and it’s one of the first things people see when they come through the turnstiles, which is something we carry with us every day. It is very much a team effort with the work that goes into both EP and the day to day running of the pitches at Carrington. This award really is a testament to Justin, Jake, Ian and Bailey for their brilliant work.”
