After three successive wins, Manager Dave Challinor believes it is ‘exciting times’ at the club, although he is still taking things one game at a time regarding Saturday’s trip to Sutton United.
In his latest pre-match interview, the manager was positive about County’s league position but was also stressed his side will be exercising caution against Sutton, as they too find themselves in a good run of form having won their previous four games.
When asked about how important momentum is going into County’s final six games, Challinor said “Of course it’s important, but like I said I think at this stage of the season as results have shown momentum can be great, but I don’t think it has too much bearing on what the games look like.”
“On a given day, anybody can beat anybody. I’d much rather be going into the game having won three on the bounce, but I’ll still be of the same opinion that Saturday for us is a singular game, and we’ll approach it like that in terms of the opposition. We’ll prepare as we have done for every single other game. And go there and look to give ourselves the best chance of getting three points, because if you look it like that, Sutton comes into the back of the game on the back of four wins. Two teams that are in form, two teams that have really big objectives in terms of what they want to achieve.”
Regarding injuries, the gaffer has said that Louie Barry will not be available for Saturday’s match but suggested he and Ethan Bristow might be in contention for Tuesday night’s clash against Colchester.
The manager was also full of praise for Ethan Pye following his nomination for League Two’s Young Player of the Year.
“He’s matured really quickly, learnt from mistakes, and become a mainstay in our team. And for a 20-year-old it’s a huge testament to the work he’s put in and the development he’s had over the past 18 months. Hopefully, that will continue, and he gets the opportunity to test himself in a higher division.”
