Cody pens new deal

We are pleased to announce that midfielder Cody Johnson has signed a new one-year deal with the club, keeping him at Edgeley Park for another season.

The 19-year-old made his debut for County in 2022, memorably putting in a Man of the Match display in our FA Trophy win over Cheshunt at Edgeley Park, at the age of just 17 and signing his first pro-deal with the club just a few months later.

The Academy graduate has since gone on to make 14 appearances for the club in all competitions, nine of which came last season – including another eye-catching display away at Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup. He has also enjoyed two loan spells in the National League North in the last two seasons, at Banbury United and Scarborough Athletic.

Having now penned a new deal until 2025, we look forward to continuing Cody’s development with the club over the next 12 months.

Director of Football, Simon Wilson said:

“Cody has earned the right for us to be patient with him, through his application every day to improving himself.

“The style of player he is, he needs to overcome more physical players and as we rise the leagues this only gets tougher.

There’s two ways he can do this: by being a 10/10 player with the ball, and improving his physicality. Everyone can see his on the ball qualities and although it feels like he’s been around for ages, he’s only 19, still growing and is in-development.

“This initial extension allows all parties further time to work together and see where it takes us. Everyone is behind him.”
