County Christmas Day Ten: Elliot Osborne Earns First National League Point at Notts County!

As we reach day 10 of our #CountyChristmas Countdown, we cast our minds back to August, where a goal from our #10 Elliot Osborne earned County our first point since returning to the National League!

After a disappointing opening day of the season saw us lose 1-0 at home to Maidenhead United, County made the Tuesday night trip to recently relegated Notts County for what looked to me a major test.

In what was Notts County’s first ever home non-league game, the tie was played out in front of a bumper crowd of 5,820 at Meadow Lane, including an extraordinary 913 travelling Hatters making the Tuesday night journey down.

Despite a promising opening half that saw Osborne come close on three occasions, County fell behind on 36 minutes – Jim O’Brien half-volleying home from distance to give the Magpies the lead.

Back came County though, who dominated large parts of the second period, and deservedly equalised 20 minutes from time, Osborne latching on to Nyal Bell’s through ball to slide County level, and deservedly so.

Both sides had chances to win the game late on but to no avail, as County earned their first National League point since a 1-1 draw at Gateshead back in April 2013 – with Osborne becoming the first player to score for the Hatters at this level since Adnan Cirak, in that same game.
