County helping people ’Move to a Mile’

As part of this year’s Stockport Moves event, which will be held in the town centre on Sunday 2nd July, County Community Trust is delighted to launch our ‘Move to a Mile’ project in association with Stockport Council.

The Move to a Mile model will use a similar concept as ‘Couch to 5k’, and aims to engage with people who are currently doing no or extremely limited exercise to help them build up to be able to walk a distance of one mile as part of the Stockport Moves celebration.

The idea is to use Edgeley Park and the perimeter around the pitch for people to gradually build up their walking distance over an 8-week period, culminating in the town centre event on the 2nd July.

The Trust is hoping to encourage around 15/20 adults to sign up and take part in this programme, which will start on Wednesday 3rd May from 12.00pm to 1.00pm. The programme will then run for the following eight weeks, with the ultimate aim for everyone to achieve four laps of the pitch by the end of the programme – the equivalent of around one mile.

All participants would be supported by our Community Trust staff throughout the weekly sessions, with the final mile reached and completed at the Stockport Moves event.

After each led session at Edgeley Park, participants will have the chance to have refreshments and socialise with other members of the group. All participants will then be provided with a County t-shirt to complete the event in, hopefully cheered on by their friends and family.
