Stockport County Ladies are back in action this weekend, as Steve O’Hara’s side prepare for their season opener against Norton & Stockton at Stockport Sports Village.
After a strong pre-season, our Ladies side will be looking to build on a promising campaign that saw them lift the Cheshire County Cup and finish 5th in last season’s FA Women’s National League Division One North.
Now heading into his third full season in charge of the Club, manager Steve O’Hara looks ahead to Sunday’s game:
“This weekend sees us begin our 24/25 campaign with the visit of Norton & Stockton Ancients, who coincidently were our opponents on the final day of last season, a game we won 2-0 away from home.
“We’ve all have had a good break since then, and an excellent pre-season that has seen us remain unbeaten in the seven games we played.
“One of the most pleasing aspects was not only the amount of goals we scored, but also the quality of goals themselves. As expected, we have introduced a few new faces over the summer and all have been in amongst the goals so far.
“In terms of opposition, Norton is always a tough game; they work hard and are difficult to break down, but also carry a goal threat.
“We want to start on the front foot, and winning our home games will be a really important part of what we want to achieve this season. We had too many draws last year and that’s something we’re looking to improve on this campaign, at Stockport Sports Village and at Edgeley Park.
“Everyone is excited to get back to competitive action, and it would be great to have as much support as possible for the coming season. It was brilliant to see higher attendances throughout last season and we’re hoping that’s something we can build on this year.
“We look forward to welcoming old and new faces to Stockport Sports Village this season – and remember, all County season ticket holders get in free to all our home league games!”
Sunday’s game against Norton & Stockton is a 2pm kick-off at Stockport Sports Village in Woodley, with tickets available on the door for £5. If you are a Stockport County season ticket holder, entry is free for all home league matches next season!
