County Ladies Update: 2021/22 season comes to a close

An unforgettable 2021/22 season for everyone involved with Stockport County Football Club is finally at an end, as we bring you our final Ladies Update of the campaign.

As Dave Challinor’s side wrapped up the National League title on Sunday 15th May, Steve O’Hara’s side couldn’t quite make it a day of double celebration, as they lost out to Tranmere on penalties in the Cheshire Cup Final – but that didn’t take the shine of another fantastic season of growth for the Ladies side.

O’Hara summarised his first four months in charge at the Football Club:

“So as the season draws to a close, it’s time to look back at my first few months as Stockport County Ladies manager.

“My task this season was to stay in the league and then start to build on that. From the moment I got the job I have been made to feel part of the County family by players, committee and the fans of both the Ladies’ and the Mens’ sides.

“I didn’t change much at first as I wanted to assess what we had available to us, and we struggled in the first couple of games to get that win. Then we changed our style of play, things started to click, and the players started to believe in themselves.

“We went on a bit of a run in both League and Cup, including an incredible night at Edgeley Park, beating Leeds 4-2, in front of a record crowd for the Ladies’ team. I am immensely grateful to the County fans for making that night so special.

“We have already started putting plans in place for next season, and with the relationship between the Men’s team and us getting closer, the future really looks bright. I have a great team of Coaches working with me and I’m excited for the next few years wearing the County badge!”

Presentation night at Edgeley Park:

County Ladies held their presentation event on Saturday, with the Junior section in the afternoon and Seniors in the evening. The Junior event packed out the 1883 Suite at Edgeley Park for a celebration of a great season for all our nine Junior teams, from Under 9s to Under 16s. Following this, our Under 11s formed the guard of honour for the FAWNL Playoff Final between Wolves and Southampton.

In the evening, the Senior event continued to celebrate what has been a very successful season for the Club. Securing our continued FAWNL status, a National Trophy for the Reserves, league runners up for Development and a County Cup win for the Under 18s.

Steve Bellis was there to present First team Captain, Kenedy Owen with her award as the SCFC Ladies’ Player of the Year. He also brought along the Vanarama National League Trophy!

First Team awards were a scoop for Captain Kenedy Owen, getting the Managers Player of the Year and Player’s Player of the Year! Chloe Howard took the Hatters Award, for an outstanding contribution this season.
