County Ladies rounded off a perfect weekend for the club by picking up a second away win of the season on Sunday night, winning 2-0 away at FC United of Manchester.
Manager Steve O’Hara takes us through the game:
“It was a warm October Sunday afternoon as we arrived in Manchester, looking to extend our unbeaten league run to four games.
“It was a match we dominated from start to finish, and only a great goalkeeper display by our opponents prevented us from winning by a bigger margin.
“We started on the front foot, and scored inside the first five minutes of the game. Some good play down the left led to the ball eventually finding Harriet Houghton 12 yards out, who calmly slotted the ball past the ‘keeper.
“The dominance continued through the first half, but chances came and went. Jess Gillin was causing lots of problems with her pace, getting in behind the FC United defence, but each time the keeper came to the home side’s rescue.
“We got to the break 1-0 in front, although we felt a little frustrated that we didn’t have more to show for our really good work.
“The second half was very much the same pattern; a totally controlled performance from the girls, with their ‘keeper making save after save.
“As we entered the final 20 minutes of the game, a well-worked set piece found centre back Gemma Lancaster at the back post and she sent her header back across the ‘keeper, who this time wasn’t able to keep the ball out of the corner of the net. It sealed a thoroughly deserved victory, after a really professional away performance from the team.

Following on from that win, County are in action away from home again in midweek, as we make the short trip to Chorley on Wednesday night. The game at Victoria Park is 7.45pm KO, as we look to climb above the Magpies in the league table with another three points.
It’s the second game in a run of four straight away fixtures for O’Hara’s side, who are next in action at Stockport Sports Village on Sunday 5th November against Chester le street Town.
