Steve O’Hara’s County Ladies side are flying right now, going into last Sunday’s game against Middlesbrough on the back of three straight wins without conceding a goal. Find out how they got on at Stockport Sports Village in our latest weekly update.
Mayor and Mayoress watch on as County hammer Boro:
It was a special occasion at Stockport Sports Village on Sunday, as the Mayor of Stockport, Councillor David Wilson and the Mayoress, Jeanette Slavinski came to watch the First Team’s game against Middlesbrough.
Before the match, they were both presented with a pair of County Ladies shirts signed by the First Team and the Mayor presented September’s Player of the Month Award to goalkeeper, Faye Bowness. The Mayor and Mayoress also shook hands with the team prior to kick-off.
The Team rose to the occasion and put on an excellent performance, continuing their winning streak with a 3-0 victory and moving above Middlesbrough in the table.
Manager Steve O’Hara was extremely pleased to secure such a convincing win at home following the Team’s recent good away form:
“After three tough away games it was nice to be back at home this week, looking to continue the good form. Middlesbrough have had some decent results this season so we were expecting a tough encounter.
“We dominated the first half, but only being 1-0 up at the break, we felt work still needed to be done. The second goal was a free kick from 25 yards, courtesty of Player of the Match, Levi Rathburn, who found a gap in the defence and fired home off the post, a superb strike.
“We then wrapped up the win when substitute Nefa Douglas won the ball in midfield, drove through the middle and smashed it in the top corner!
“The perfect performance once again from the girls – and I will never get tired of saying that!”
Following the game the Player of the Match was chosen by Stockport County Club President, Steve Bellis, who presented the award to scorer of the spectacular free-kick, Levi Rathburn.
