County’s Christmas Giving

This festive season, Stockport County’s Christmas charity campaign was all about giving back to our local community and this year it centred around providing food, warmth, and gifts to those who need it most.

Giving Food

This December we hosted a Christmas Lunch at Edgeley Park for those who may feel lonely this festive period. We invited vulnerable adults from our community, including members from our Community Trust Wellbeing group, Age UK, and local care homes. The initiative was an opportunity for around 150 guests to enjoy a special meal, where they were joined by some of our first-team players who came along to share the festive spirit.

As part of the Giving Food initiative, our chefs also prepared and delivered 150 meals to the Wellspring homeless shelter in Stockport, where players and staff handed out Christmas lunches to the people of Stockport that are homeless or at risk of losing their home.

Giving Warmth

In our second initiative, we encouraged fans, businesses and anyone who was able to, to donate coats, scarves, hats and gloves this Christmas. This initiative was all about spreading warmth during the chilly season, with the club collaborating with local homeless charities like EGG and Wellspring. Donations were taken at the club throughout December, with plenty of supporters getting involved and helping to provide those less fortunate with the clothes they need this Christmas.

Giving Gifts

This year we are also partnered with Merseyway and their Giving Tree campaign. Displayed in Stockport’s Merseyway, the large white Christmas tree is laden with tags for people to take and purchase a gift to ensure less fortunate children within the community receive a Christmas present. As part of our commitment, the Club provided gifts for 100 of these tags, collaborating closely with local businesses to help fund the initiative.

Every tag was bespoke to each child, so you know the gift you buy was something that child had asked for on their Christmas list. To get involved all you had to do is choose a unique tag from the Giving Tree, showcasing a recipient’s age and their desired Christmas gift. By selecting a tag, you ensured that a less fortunate child or person in Stockport receives something they’ve wished for during this festive season.

First-team players Macauley Southam-Hales and Antoni Sarcevic also recently went to visit the tree in person, before embarking on a shopping spree to provide a van-full of presents for children in need this Christmas!

We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who got involved in County’s Christmas Giving campaign this year, to help support those less fortunate this Christmas. By working together, we will continue to make a positive difference to the town and our community.
