Read the reaction from Lead PDP Coach Jamie Crowther, after Saturday’s narrow loss to Mansfield Town at Carrington in the EFL Youth Alliance Cup.
Despite a strong second-half showing from the Hatters, a solitary first-half goal from the visitors was enough to condemn County to defeat in our third group-stage game, against a strong Mansfield side.
“It was a strong test for some of the younger players in our squad against a well organised Mansfield side,” Crowther said. “We started the game slowly and found ourselves a goal down just after 10 minutes, but the reaction from then on was really good and we managed to gain control possession for the rest of the game, albeit without creating many clear cut chances.
“In the second half we again dictated the game but struggled to break down a resolute Mansfield defence. The lads’ performances over the last few weeks have been excellent, and although Saturday saw a slight drop in this we are getting stronger and fitter with each week, adapting well to this level and the lads are chomping to go again against another strong side in Shrewsbury on Saturday.”
