Our Player Pathway and Sports Career Pathway have been hard at work in the classroom this term, as they look to make a strong end to the academic year. The students work towards a Level 3 BTEC in Sports Development. while a group of students study towards a Level 2 certificate, before moving onto the Level 3 BTEC next year.
Player Pathway
Throughout the academic year, our Player Pathway students have studied a wide range of sports-related topics. These topics cover ‘Careers in the Sport and Active Leisure Industry’, ‘Health and Wellbeing in Sport’, ‘Developing Coaching Skills’, ‘Sports Development’ and ‘Self-employment in Sport’. The students have also covered ‘Anatomy and Physiology’ and ‘Rules, Regulation and Officiating in Sport’ to finish the academic year.
The ‘Anatomy and Physiology’ module allowed our students to fully understand the theory behind their gym-work. This included the exercises that are best to optimise performance on the pitch and avoid injury, and the benefits of warming up before lengthy periods of exercise.
The ‘Rules, Regulation and Officiating in Sport’ module helps our students gain a further understanding of how rules and regulations are implemented across a wide range of sports. This also gives an insight into officiating, should our students take that path upon leaving the Football Education.
Sports Career Pathway
Our Sports Career Pathway students have covered a number of topics throughout the academic year. These units have included ‘Fitness Skills Development’, ‘Fitness Testing’, ‘Sporting Injuries’, ‘Sports Nutrition’, ‘Careers in the Sport Active Leisure Industry’, ‘Health, Wellbeing and Sport’ and ‘Self-employment in Sport’.
These modules have been tailored towards each specific pathway: Coaching, Analysis, Rehab and Strength and Conditioning. ‘Fitness Testing’, ‘Fitness Skills Development’, ‘Sporting Injuries’ and ‘Sports Nutrition’ tailor towards Rehab and Strength and Conditioning, which are gym-focused. These modules cover the theory behind creating return-to-play fitness plans for our players, and how to identify injury to optimise recovery time.
‘Careers in the Sport Active Leisure Industry’, ‘Health, Wellbeing and Sport’ and ‘Self-employment in Sport’ are all modules that are taken by each of our four pathways as an introduction to the course, before each pathway split off into their own groups, to undertake pathway-specific units.
