Football Education | In the Classroom | Winter Term

Our students have continued to work hard throughout the Winter Term, after an encouraging start to the academic year before Christmas.

Take a look at what our Player Pathway and Sports Career Pathway got up to in the classroom since returning from the Christmas break.

Player Pathway

Carrying on from a successful first term of the year, our Football Education students moved onto new modules in the classroom. The first-year students began their ‘Developing Coaching Skills’ module, which enhances the students’ ability to deliver coaching sessions. It also gives the students experience to take into future roles, should they pursue a career in the coaching field.

The first-year students also studied ‘Sports Development’, where they touched upon key providers of development within sport, while forming their own sports development initiatives. This can range from coaching sessions up to gym classes, across any sport.

The second-year students have covered the ‘Applied Coaching Skills’ module. This gives the students the opportunity to apply the knowledge they obtained during their ‘Developing Coaching Skills’ unit, and deliver a number of sessions across a six-week period.

They will also study ‘Technical and Tactical Skills in Sport’, where the students will analyse their own performance, alongside a case study of an elite sports athlete.

Sports Career Pathway

Continuing on from a promising first term, our Sports Career Pathway students studied a wide-range of topics. After an introduction to the course, the students branched off into pathway-specific modules.

Strength and Conditioning and Sports Rehab

The Strength and Conditioning (S&C) and Sports Rehab students have covered the ‘Sports Injuries’ module this term. This includes how to treat different variations of injuries related to sport, and what it takes to help athletes recover in the gym.

These students have also studied the ‘Fitness Skills Development’ module. This covered what it takes to keep athletes in elite condition, while also demonstrating different exercises to use both in the gym and on the pitch, to keep players sharp.

Coaching

The Coaching students have covered the ‘Anatomy and Physiology’ module this term. This addressed different areas of the human anatomy, and how injury can be prevented through game and player management. This module also helped the students understand what precautions a coach needs to take to make sure their team plays to their full potential.

The second module covered by our Coaching students was the ‘Developing Coaching Skills’ unit. This gave our students an insight into numerous different coaching techniques and drills, aiming to optimise performance on the pitch.

Analysis

The Analysis students also covered the ‘Developing Coaching Skills’ module. Understanding how to clip and analyse separate coaching drills is key when delivering pre and post-match analysis sessions. Like our Coaching students, they studied numerous coaching techniques and drills, which helps optimise player performance levels.

‘Rules and Regulations’ was the final module that our Analysis students covered. This unit discussed what our students need to look out for when clipping games, to stay in line with the regulations of each sport they cover.
