Football Education Perform Above Expectations at MIC 2024

Our second-year Football Education students travelled to Spain last week to compete in MIC 2024, where the players performed above expectations and reached the final 16.

The squad beat IDA Valencia 1-0 in their first group game, courtesy of a late Sam Lowe goal. The second-years then defeated Sant Feliu de Guixols 4-0 the following day, with Joel Sutton opening the scoring and Rylan Griffin grabbing a brace, before Callum Rowland headed home. Their final group game ended in defeat at the hands of Sporting Badalona, as they ran out with a 1-0 victory.

The campaign ended in Lloret de Mar with County falling to a 2-0 defeat to Espanyol. County were the final British team remaining in the U19 division of the MIC Cup 2024.

In their downtime, the players enjoyed a number of activities, including:

  • Beach football
  • Pool
  • Swimming
  • Team walks, exploring the local area.

The players also organised their own ‘awards night’, and voted for the likes of the ‘Players’ Player of the Tournament’, ‘Beach Footballer of the Week’ and ‘Best Sportsman’. The awards were picked up by staff and players from around the local area, and presented on the final night of the trip.
