The Football Education recognises the importance of providing care for its young players and we take great pride in ensuring players feel supported throughout the course.

For this reason, our Academy Welfare & Attendance Officer is available throughout the year should any players wish to book a welfare meeting with them to discuss any issues or concerns they have. The AWO also operates the weekly welfare questionnaire to assess any areas a player may be struggling or excelling in. Any changes to the Player Care set up due to the clubs new status will be communicated in due course.

Player Care Packs

Towards the end of the second year, a player care pack will be created for each player, this pack will contain information specific to that player. Included will be reviews from coaches, tutors, football exit pathways, education exit pathways, support, and alternatives. The pack is essentially a reflection on your time with us and will be used as guidance towards your next steps, either with the club or elsewhere.

Players Committee

From this season, eight players from Football Education, including three from the 1st year and five from the 2nd year will be selected to form the players committee (PC), to represent the players on Club matters that affect the players. The Football Education staff will select the members of the committee and will notify all players of the individuals involved. Football Education staff will meet a minimum of four times per season with the PC, to aid two-way communication and review of matters related to the desired conduct and behaviors of the Football Education players. The PC will feed back any relevant information to the squads. This two-way communication is vital for player and staff wellness. We operate an open-door policy encouraging all our Football Education players to communicate with staff whenever they feel the need to do so. During the two year programme and beyond, we have had many players return seeking employment opportunities, placements, and advice/guidance after the two-year programme.

Workshops & Tutorials

As a Football Education player, it is important to develop your skills both on and off the pitch. For this reason, a series of workshops and tutorials will be provided throughout your two years with the club. The workshops will cover a variety of life skills subjects such as finance and personal development. The tutorials will cover subjects including mental health, equality & diversity and guest speakers.

After Care

As a Football Education player, you will also become a member of our player after-care programme. This begins with the individual player after-care packs previously mentioned, but here you will also be able to attend monthly workshops the workshops mentioned above as well as work with Football Education staff on your next steps, whether that be with Stockport Town, scholarships, university applications or a career in player care yourself!

Alumni

In addition, you will also be entered into the Football Education Alumni group with your fellow teammates from your year. Here we will post about topics such as placements, work opportunities, events and more. It will also be great to hear from you throughout your firstyear post Football Education, as we will do a feature of it within our social channels
