Gill to referee Bristol Street Motors clash

Sunny Gill has been selected as the match referee for Wednesday night’s Bristol Street Motors Trophy clash between County and Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium.

Gill was promoted to the EFL as a referee last season, last overseeing a game involving County during our 1-0 win over AFC Wimbledon at Edgeley Park last September. He has already refereed Wigan once this season, taking charge for their 2-1 defeat away at Burton Albion in League One.

The official took charge of 31 games in all competitions last season, the majority in League One and League Two, during which time he issued 119 yellow cards, three red cards and awarded six penalties.

So far this campaign he has refereed 20 first-team games, mostly in League One, and has shown 81 yellow cards, three red cards and given four penalty kicks. His last game came in the Emirates FA Cup at the weekend, as he oversaw Gillingham’s 2-0 win over Charlton Athletic.

The Assistant Referees on Wednesday will be Jake Topp and Mark Cunliffe, whilst Steven Copeland will be the Fourth Official.
