Golden Boot Winner Joins the Hatters

Stockport County have moved quickly to beat today’s transfer deadline by signing prolific striker Jason Gilchrist on loan from Southport until the end of the season, including any Play-Off fixtures, if required.

Jason, 24, beat County’s Jason Oswell to claim the National League North Golden Boot last season, scoring 15 goals for FC United before his mid-season move to Southport, where he bagged another eleven.

The Sandgrounders paid an undisclosed club record fee when Jason moved to Haig Avenue in 2017 on a two-year deal, and he capped a fantastic season by being named in the National League North Team of the Year last summer.

This season, he has scored nine goals for Port in all competitions, despite not being a regular starter in Liam Watson’s side.

Jason spent ten years as a schoolboy at Manchester City before joining Burnley, where he scored 48 goals for the youth team during his two years at Turf Moor, including a hat trick at Manchester United in the FA Youth Cup.

County fans will know Jason well, as he scored three times against the Hatters last season for FC United and Southport.

The addition to the squad means that County’s talented young striker Szymon Czubik has been allowed to join team mate Adam Etches at Glossop North End on a Youth Loan until the end of the season.

Jason will go straight into the squad for this weekend’s home clash with Darlington.

Welcome to Edgeley Park, Jason!
