Stockport County launches £50,000 fund for local grassroots football clubs

Stockport County Football Club has launched a new grassroots football fund to support both male and female clubs across the borough, providing up to £1,500 per club to help towards the running of their clubs, covering costs such as new kits, pitch-hire, and club events.

The investment, which totals £50,000, will be distributed in-line with each individual club’s need based on number of players and eligibility. Clubs registered with the Cheshire and Manchester FA based in the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport will be eligible to apply.

Alongside the fund, Stockport County will be launching the County Cup, an opportunity for selected age groups from grassroots teams who have received funding to battle it out against each other to be crowned champions. The knock-out competition will be organised by Stockport County’s academy, with finalists from each age group going on to battle it out at a final at Edgeley Park.

Stockport County Director of Football, Simon Wilson said:

“The grassroots fund is all about supporting as many clubs from across the region, making playing football accessible to as many players in the area as possible. Items such as football kits, equipment and pitch hire can be a barrier to entry, and we want to help to alleviate that for clubs across the region, so more children are playing the beautiful game, getting active and having fun playing team sports. The County Cup will bring clubs together from across the region at all levels, to be in with the chance of being crowned the County Cup Champions with a final at Edgeley Park.”

If your Club is registered with either the Cheshire or Manchester FA and based in the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport, please apply here. Applications will close on Friday 19th May.
