We are delighted to confirm that County hero Bill Atkins will be joining us as our special guest on hospitality for this weekend’s game against Sutton United.
Bill spent two years at Edgeley Park after joining from Halifax Town, winning promotion from Division Four that same season and going on to form one of the greatest strike-partnerships in our illustrious history, alongside Jim Fryatt. In a twist of fate, the two first played together for County almost 55 years to the day on Saturday, with Bill scoring twice and Jim once in a 4-3 win against Southport.
Bill also has the notable claim of remaining the only Stockport County player to score a hat-trick in the league cup, achieving the feat against Crewe Alexandra in 1967.
Brilliant in the air and possessing a bullet of a shot, he scored 46 goals in 102 appearances for the Club before reluctantly leaving to join Portsmouth in a big money move in 1969. He is one of just 22 players to have been named in the Club’s Hall of Fame, having been inducted in 2002, and at 83 he is the oldest surviving member.
Bill will be joining us in the 1883 ahead of the game as our special guest, taking part in a Q&A session with Club President Steve Bellis, and will also be presented to the Edgeley Park faithful on the pitch at half-time.
To have your chance to meet and here from Bill, book a place on our match day hospitality today for just £75pp.
