Many happy returns to County Captain and Club Legend Paul Turnbull, who turns 31 today!
Born in Handforth, Paul progressed through the club’s Centre of Excellence as a striker, but later switched to centre midfield, which proved to be a master stroke.
He remains the youngest player ever to feature in the Football League for County, making his debut against Wrexham in 2005 at 16 years and 97 days – he needed permission from his headteacher at Wilmslow High School to appear for the first team.
Paul played a crucial role in County’s promotion to League 1 in 2008, featuring in all of County’s games in their victorious play-off campaign, before being named club captain at the age of just 21.
After leaving the club following their relegation from the Football League, Paul had two separate loan spells back at Edgeley Park, Paul returned to the club permanently in 2018, going on to captain the side to last season’s National League North title success.
Once again this season he has been a prominent fixture in the side, recently passing the 250 game mark for the club, and will forever go down as a County great.
Happy Birthday Bully, have a great day!
