Following the final round of fixtures in League Two at the weekend, goalkeeper Ben Hinchliffe has been presented with the League Two Golden Glove award, capping an incredible season for our triple title winner.
The 36-year-old kept a total of 17 clean sheets in his 46 League Two appearances this season, more than any other goalkeeper, to pick up the award.
Remarkably it is the fifth golden glove award Ben has won in his eight seasons at Edgeley Park, but his first in the Football League. His performances this season have been recognised by fans and players alike, with our legendary goalkeeper winning both the Players’ Player of the Year and Supporters’ Player of the Year awards for 2023/24.
Only six players in Stockport County history have made more than Ben’s 376 appearances since joining the club from AFC Fylde in 2016, and this season’s title-success has seen him become the first player in our history to win three promotions.
Upon picking up the award, Ben said:
“This is my first Golden Glove in the Football League, so I’m obviously delighted to win the award this season. The trophy isn’t just for me though, it’s for us as a goalkeeping unit – for Nick Colgan our goalkeeping coach, and for Jordan Smith and Bobby Jones behind me. A lot of hard work goes in during the week to help keep the ball out of the net on a Saturday.
“Winning individual awards and accolades is always nice, but when it’s contributed to the team’s success in becoming champions this season it makes it all the more special. As a defensive unit this season we’ve been really strong and that’s been a massive part of what we’ve gone on to achieve.
“I’ve been on an incredible journey with this club over the last eight seasons and loved every second of it – hopefully there’s plenty more to come heading into League One next season.”
