Congratulations to County keeper Ben Hinchliffe on reaching his 100th appearance for the club during yesterday’s clash at Kidderminster Harriers.
The 30-year-old joined the Hatters from AFC Fylde in May 2016 after being involved in four successive Play-Off campaigns and being named in the Divisional Team of the Year every season. Jim Gannon has since described Ben as ‘probably the best goalkeeper in non-league football’.
During his time with the Coasters he scored the winning penalty in a Play-Off final and also won Fylde’s Goal of the Season award for a 60-yard wonder strike in the 2013 Play Off semi final! But it’s Ben’s shot-stopping ability which caught the eye of the County boss and he was outstanding again at Aggborough yesterday.
Ben, who signed an extended deal with the Hatters earlier this year, has kept 29 clean sheets in his two seasons with County.
His career started under Billy Davies as a trainee at Preston North End before following Davies to Derby County. He enjoyed a spell at Oxford United, before heading back north to play for Bamber Bridge and then Northwich Victoria, where he replaced James Spencer as Vic’s number one.
