January Monthly Update

The Academy returned from the Christmas break ready to go, as our Scholars made the trips to Walsall and Oldham, on top of a tie with Blackpool at Stockport Sports Village. Personal development workshops, including a cooking class with the Club’s chefs, helped our Scholars gain vital life experience off the pitch. Interview with Christian Mulindwa

U19 midfielder Christian Mulindwa shared his experience on his first year at County, including how he has settled into the squad, how he has developed, and what the experience of the coaching staff bring to the table.

On the Pitch

Walsall (A)

Our Academy Scholars kicked the year off with a trip to Walsall. Two late goals from Che Gardner and Jack Kenny sealed a 2-1 victory for the young Hatters, as the home side took an early lead. Watch the highlights below or read about the action here.

Blackpool (H)

For the first time in 2024, our Academy Scholars were back at home, as they welcomed Blackpool to Stockport Sports Village. The away side emerged 2-1 victors, despite a late consolation from Kylan Depeiaza. Read about the game here, or watch the highlights below:

Oldham (A)

Our Academy Scholars travelled to Oldham for their final game in January. Despite taking the lead through Keane Barugh, Oldham hit back with four unanswered goals, with three coming in the second half.

Joe Hillary

Left-wing back Joe Hillary featured in County’s warm ups against Mansfield Town on New Year’s Day at Edgeley Park after his inclusion in the matchday squad at Bradford City in December, following numerous excellent displays in the EFL Youth Alliance North West Division and FA Youth Cup.

Personal Development

Cooking Class

Our Academy Scholars travelled to Edgeley Park in January to undertake a cooking class, led by the Club’s expert chefs. This taught our scholars the importance of a healthy diet, and some useful recipes to take home.

Against the Odds Education and Awareness

‘Against the Odds’ visited Stockport Sports Village this month, to deliver a workshop surrounding the problems that gambling can create for individuals within the industry. Aaron Abbott, the guest speaker, also shared his personal experience with gambling, showing the dangers to our Academy Scholars.
