Joe Piggott joins on loan

County boss Jim Gannon has bolstered his striking options with the loan signing of Joe Piggott from Wigan Athletic.

The 21-year-old centre forward signed earlier today for an initial one-month spell with an option to extend.

Last season Joe played for Altrincham in the National League North, scoring four goals in six appearances, including a second-half hat trick in a 6-0 demolition of Curzon Ashton.

He had previously spent nine games on loan at Morecambe FC earlier in the campaign.

Joe has an impressive CV already, having come through the ranks as a youngster at Everton and Rochdale before signing a pro deal at Dundee United in 2017, making his debut in a Scottish Cup win over Alloa Athletic.

He returned to his native Cheshire in 2018, signing for Warrington Town, where his goal scoring exploits caught the attention of scouts from Wigan Athletic, and he signed for Latics in August 2018.

Last week he claimed another match ball after scoring three goals against Fleetwood for Wigan’s Under-23s in the Central League Cup. He’s already scored seven goals for Nick Chadwick’s U23s this season.

Jim Gannon said: “I’m delighted to have been able to reinforce the squad and strengthen our striking options, because we have started to encounter a crop of injuries recently, so it’s important to have other options. Joe is a powerful, talented young striker and I’m pleased that he’ll be available for our game at Chorley on Saturday. He’s got good experience at the North level, and his previous record is very impressive.”

Welcome to Edgeley Park, Joe!
