Jordan is Keane to get started

County boss Jim Gannon has completed the signing of defensive midfielder Jordan Keane from Boston United.

24-year-old Jordan, who has signed a one-year deal, is a versatile player who can also slot in at centre half. He was ever-present in the National League North for the Pilgrims last season, captained the side, scored six goals and was named the Players’ Player of the Year as Boston just missed out on the Play Offs.

Jordan said: “I pride myself on getting the respect of the lads in the changing room and being an organiser on the pitch, so that was a very special award for me, and I can only speak highly of Boston United, they’re a terrific club.

“But my focus now is on County, who came very close last season, so the team isn’t far off and hopefully I can play my part in helping to nudge them over that line. My aim is to be back in the Football League and the foundations are definitely here at Stockport County to achieve that goal.”

Last summer Jordan beat thousands of players to be selected for the Jamie Vardy Academy, held over five days at Manchester City’s training complex.

Jordan started his career at Stoke City, playing alongside Peter Crouch and Charlie Adams before spells with Tamworth, Alfreton, Nuneaton and Worcester City.

He said: ”I know a couple of the players here at County, including Adam Thomas who was with me at Stoke, and every time I come here it just feels like a proper club. I want to be playing at the top end, battling for honours, winning trophies, and after speaking to Jim it’s really excited me.”

Jordan is also looking forward to the training regime at County next season, which includes a Monday session as well as two weeknights.

Jordan said: ”In terms of outside interests, I don’t have anything that takes up too much of my time. My brother and I have set up a dog-walking business, so I’m very flexible with my hours! I’ve also done my coaching badges and would one day like to follow that route.

”I’m really happy to do the Monday training, it gives you an extra edge and it also means you spend more time with the lads, which is so important if you’re building a successful team.”

Manager Jim Gannon said: “We are delighted to have Jordan at the club, he is an important signing in terms of adding to a backbone of experienced, quality players, and he impressed me last season as both a defensive midfielder who can play, but also as a centre half, which deminstrates his versatility.”
