Ladies Update: County bow out of Women’s FA Cup after narrow defeat

This weekend’s fixture saw County Ladies bow out of the Women’s FA Cup in the second round following a 1-0 defeat to Stoke City Ladies, seeing our winning run come to an end.

It was a strong performance from the Ladies, against a team who play in the league above. County came up short despite a valiant team effort, and severe pressure on our opponents in the second half.

County thought they’d taken the lead in the first half, however the flag went up for offside. But County had proven that they were able to grasp the initiative and perform well against a strong opponent.

It was Stoke City though who took the lead just before half time, and County were unable to find a leveller, despite mounting pressure throughout the second period.

Despite the disappointing result, the team can take a lot from the performance.

Post- match, manager Steve O’Hara gave his thoughts on the result :

“I’m absolutely gutted for the girls. I thought we were the better team for large spells of the game, particularly in the second half.

“We spoke all week about how it will be about who takes their chances, and we definitely had the better of them. One lapse in concentration and that’s been the difference in the game.

“Although I’m gutted, I’m also incredibly proud of our performance, which showed we can match a team from a league above.“

County Ladies’ next fixture is at home against Norton and Stockton Ancients Ladies on the 3rd of December, looking to bounce back and return to winning ways.
