Ladies Update: County make quick return to winning ways

County Ladies certainly bounced back to form this weekend with a 3-1 league win against Norton and Stockton Ancients at Stockport Sports Village.

In our final home league game of the year, the team looked to return to winning ways following our disappointing exit from the FA Cup at Stoke City last weekend.

It was a fast start from County, with a goal from Olivia Greenhalgh in just the third minute. County were relentless, with several chances throughout the first half; Jess Gillin one of the standout performers.

Kenzie Bentley continued her fine recent goal-scoring form with County’s second in the 23rd minute, with Steve O’Hara’s side continuing to demonstrate their dominance with an array of chances.

The first half finished 2-0 to County, after an exceptional display from many across the pitch.

Into the second half, and Olivia Greenhalgh grabbed her second of the match in the 60th minute – converting a chance which came to her following a well-worked free kick.

The visitors did manage to pull one back in the 69th minute, however it was not enough for them to get back into the match, with County in control and seeing out the remainder of the afternoon comfortably.

There was more drama after the final whistle however, as an opposition player was shown a red card by the referee due to an exchange of words with one of the match officials.

The attendance at Stockport Sports Village was 76, who all witnessed an exceptional performance from the team, and another three points on the board.

Post match, Manager Steve O’Hara gave his thoughts on the victory:

“I’m really pleased with how we went about our work today. Norton are always a tough team to beat, so to win so convincingly is great for the girls.

“Apart from a spell in the second half, I thought we were very much in control of the game throughout. Another win in the league and now up to fourth, which really adds to the feeling that we’re moving in the right direction coming up to halfway in the season.”
