March Update: Academy Work Experience

Academy Students take on work experience with the Community Trust

In March the Community Trust welcomed over 250 boys & girls to take part in the 2022 Stockport County Community U11’s Guardian Education School Cup at Stockport Sports Village. Many of our Academy students, officiated throughout the day as part of their educational studies. Academy student Tom Sheil who took part had this to say: “Doing the refereeing today was an enjoyable experience and I could tell that all the players involved were enjoying it too. It took a bit of time getting used to it, but it was a great lesson in what refereeing can be like. Hopefully there will be another tournament where I can referee again.”

Academy student Asa Burnside recently has been taking part in work experience with a local primary school with the community trust. Here is what he had to say on his recent experience: ‘I have been undertaking my work experience at Abingdon primary school, my main duties have been to assist the Stockport County Community trust in providing physical educational sessions with the reception classes and a year 6 multi-sports after school class. The main purpose and goals are to engage the children and encourage them to participate in physical activities to enable them to have fun and enjoy, hopefully creating important life skills and have regular exercise as part of their day-to-day life. I have found the experience extremely rewarding, working with the children, and seeing how they interact with us as the coaches and each other in a positive manner. It’s been a pleasure to work alongside Ian and Matty from Stockport County Community Trust, they have been very welcoming and informative, learning from the way they provide the sessions on a regular and consistent basis. I think it’s excellent for the students at the school to have this opportunity as part of their curriculum.’

Additionally, Academy student Joe Moore has also been working with a local primary school with the community trust. Here is what he had to say: ‘For the past month, I’ve been involved with Stockport County Community Trust at Abingdon primary school, coaching, and helping with many different classes. During my time at the primary school, I’ve been coaching classes from year 1, up to year 6, developing all the key skills I need to be a good coach, and working on the skills I already have. I’ve been coaching at the Primary School for the past 4 weeks with Matty and Ian from the Community Trust. They have both really helped me, giving me a great example of how to manage a session and how to effectively treat and coach the many different characters at the school, to get the best out of them. They’ve also been giving me many opportunities and chances to show my coaching skills in different scenarios with all the classes we’ve worked with. I’ve really enjoyed the experience as it’s allowed me to experience a wide range of new classes in a different environment and different types of sessions, which I haven’t had a chance to do when I regularly coach at Football and Futsal. The experience has given me even more confidence when coaching as I feel I can confidently show my coaching abilities with any class or team that I work with. I’ve really enjoyed this work experience with the County Community Trust, and I can’t wait to carry on my coaching journey.’
