Phil Bardsley named as PFA Community Champion

We are proud to announce that Phil Bardsley has been named the PFA Community Champion for Stockport County for the 22/23 season.

The award, which was presented to Phil by Alison Warwood and Dave Wardle from the County Community Trust and Terry Angus and Stephen Rayner from the PFA, recognises and champions players who give the most back to their communities. Phil was selected by the Club after he decided to donate his full salary since his signing to the Community Trust.

The money donated was used to fund provision for young people in the school holidays including funding activities and days out that they would not usually get to do. Phil felt from his own childhood experiences that the school holiday period can be a real worrying time for families with the lack of a structured school day and balanced healthy meal provided.

As part of his commitment to the programme, Phil also came along to one of the sessions at Staircase House, the museum in the centre of Stockport, to meet some of the children his donation was helping to support.

Speaking at Staircase House about his donation, Phil Bardsley said:

“I really wanted to do something to give back to the community of Stockport and the club. Donating my wages for the season seemed like the best way that I could do this.

“Football has given me a great career and a very comfortable lifestyle, and I really wanted to use this money to help some of the young people and communities that haven’t had the same opportunities that I have.  I know what dedicated work the team at the County Community Trust do and I wanted to support this work by providing opportunities for young people”.
