The Stockport County Players Association recently hosted a successful Supporters Meeting Event in London, the first of its kind, ahead of the club’s game against Leyton Orient in League Two.
The event saw four former players attend in James Jennings, Sam Minihan, Jim Carstairs and Paul Jones, joining Club President Steve Bellis and former Blackburn Rovers striker Matt Jansen for a Q&A session in front of our southern-based fans.
The evening took place at the Pavilion End Pub near St Paul’s Cathedral, with almost 50 supporters joining us for the night in a private room with a dedicated bar.
The former players all had the opportunity to talk about their memories of playing at Edgeley Park, with stories ranging from Jonesy’s and Jim’s experiences playing under Danny Bergara in the 90s, through to JJ and Sam’s role in the club’s recent title success.
There was also time on the night for Jim Carstairs to be presented with his unique SCAN certificate by club historian Ian Watts, commemorating his unique place in Stockport County history.
The players all stayed behind to chat to the County fans after the event, and all were at the game the day after as County hammered League Two champions Leyton Orient 3-0 at Brisbane Road to keep their promotion hopes alive heading into the final day.
The event is expected to be the first of many ran by the SCPA over the next few years across the country, as we look to continue to engage with both former players, and supporters near and far.”
