Ray Dyer – RIP

Everyone at Edgeley Park was very sad to hear of the passing of our former player Ray Dyer, who died on Saturday 9th December.

Ray was born in Stockport and represented Stockport Schools, Cheshire Schools and played an England Schools trial game alongside future World Cup winner Bobby Charlton. He signed as an amateur for Bolton Wanderers before joining County as a part time professional in July 1956.

Ray appeared in many A,B and Reserve team games before making his first team debut (at the age of 18) versus Gateshead at Edgeley Park on Oct 6th 1956. This was to be his only first team game for County, with his time at Edgeley Park being interrupted by his national service. He left County in 1959 and played local football for Crown Wallpaper, Woodbank and Wilmslow Albion. Ironically he was a painter and decorator by trade and spent his latter years in retirement in Rhyl.

RIP, Ray.
