Simpson to referee Grimsby game

Referee Scott Simpson has been selected to take charge of Saturday’s League Two fixture between league leaders County and Grimsby Town at Edgeley Park.

This is Simpson’s first season as a full-time EFL referee, having been promoted from the National League over the summer. He was in charge for three games involving County during our National League title-winning campaign in 2021/22, overseeing our home wins over Altrincham and Southend United, and an away defeat at Halifax Town. He also refereed Grimsby twice that season, in their away defeats at Wrexham and Solihull Moors.

Simpson took charge of 18 first-team games in all competitions last season, including the National League play-off semi-final between Chesterfield and Bromley. In that time, he has issued 76 yellow cards, four red cards and awarded eight penalties.

He has taken charge of ten games so far this campaign, the majority in League One, during which time he has shown 51 yellows, four reds and given three penalties. His last game came in League Two last weekend, in charge for AFC Wimbledon’s game at home to Bradford City, which the visitors won 1-0.

The Assistant Referees on Saturday will be Ryan Williams and Mark Jones, whilst Grant Taylor will be the Fourth Official at Edgeley Park.
