Match Preview | County v Ebbsfleet United

County return to SK3 this weekend after the magnificent win at Barnet, looking to make it three wins on the bounce for the first time since September.

Our opponent:

Ebbsfleet United are also in good form, losing just once in the last seven games in all competitions. That was a 3-2 loss to Notts County in the FA Cup First Round, meaning their last National League loss was in mid-October.

They have also won their last three away games, most recently beating Chorley 4-0 at Victory Park, following a 3-2 win at Sutton United.

However, they are still only second bottom in the National League table, after a horrid start, winning just two of their first 17 games. It is since then that they have gone undefeated in the league in over a month – a run spanning four games.

Their most recent match saw Fleet draw 2-2 against Hartlepool United, coming from 2-0 down to equalise despite going down to ten men in the first-half . Josh Umerah was shown a straight red card, resulting in his suspension for Saturday’s match.

Another player Ebbsfleet will miss on Saturday is Albie Morgan, who was recalled in the week by parent club Charlton Athletic, seeing his loan spell cut short.

Their danger man up front is top scorer Gozie Ugwu, who has scored five goals in his last four league games, putting him on seven overall for the campaign.

Frank Mulhern’s winner at Barnet was his third goal in his last five appearances.

Match stats:

  • In previous meetings, both teams have won one, lost one and drawn twice out of the four meetings between the two sides, in County’s previous two seasons in the National League.
  • Manager Kevin Watson has never managed against Jim Gannon or against County before, and this will be his first visit to Edgeley Park since 2005, as a player for Colchester United.
  • Both teams will be up for this clash, as a win for County, dependent on other results, could see the Hatters in the Play-Offs, while a win for Ebbsfleet could see them outside the relegation zone for the first time this season.
