Dux a done deal as Scott signs up for next season

County defender Scott Duxbury has signed a contract extension which will keep the 22-year-old at Edgeley Park until May 2019.

Scott has been one of the Hatter’s most consistent performers since returning to the club in 2016.

He has now clocked up 144 appearances during his two spells at the club, more than any other player in the squad.

Scott returned to Edgeley Park to be reunited with Jim Gannon after a remarkable nine months at Northwich Victoria, reaching the Play-Off Final and storming through seven rounds of the FA Cup, to come within five minutes of causing an upset against League Two outfit Northampton Town.

County boss Jim Gannon said: “I’ve worked with Scott for several seasons now and he epitomises the type of player that we should be encouraging at the club – he’s determined, dedicated and works very hard at his game. He has really bought into the extra training and that is starting to show in his performances.

“Given his age, ability, athleticism and attitude to giving full-time football a go, it was an easy decision to invest further in Scott. I’ve often spoken about the ‘proven with potential’ of our future players. With the number of games that Scott has played at this level the proven side is accepted, but the real area to work on is the potential to develop.

“Scott like many of our young players is approaching a great age in terms of learning and maturing. I feel he is only small steps away from achieving an understanding and application in different types of games that will see his consistency improve and effectiveness increase.”

As a youngster, Scott spent time at Blackburn Rovers, Burnley and Preston North End, but left Deepdale at the age of 16 to study at Myerscough College, where he passed a Level Three BTEC Diploma in Football Studies before taking a coaching qualification.

He originally signed for County in 2013 on the recommendation of Youth Development Director Alan Lord, having been a member of Myerscough’s ECFA National title-winning squad.
