Jim Gannon County Live Interview 21/09/2018

Following the arrival of returning midfielder Elliot Osborne from Southport, manager Jim Gannon speaks to Chris Ridgway about the important role he could play in the team, and why he chose to bring him back to Stockport County.

Elliot caught the eye in a brief stint in 2017, with many fans hoping that one day a return would be on the cards.

With an injury to Chris Smalley seeing Jordan Keane being utilized as a centre half more often, expectant father Sam Walker struggling slightly and Paul Turnbull’s injury woes continuing, the opportunity presented itself for a Stockport County return for Osborne.

Also on the agenda with County manager Jim Gannon was the mood around the camp following the 1-1 draw on the road with Telford. The Hatters had played some good football in their bid to bounce back from defeat to Boston, but were cruelly pegged back in the dying stages of last Saturday’s game.

With little time to waste however, the manager swiftly turns his attention to South Shields, who Stockport County face in the FA Cup this weekend. It’s a long trip for The Hatters, and one which the manager states “won’t be easy”. Shields are currently top of the division below County and look in good overall form, despite coming into the game on the back of defeat.

The arrival of cup fixtures always prompts questions on whether a break from the league is a good thing or not. With a positive performance away at second placed Telford, it could have been argued Jim Gannon would have preferred to get Stockport County straight back into more league action, but the manager says the importance of going and getting win is just as important regardless.

Following the conversation with Jim, Chris Ridgway and Martin Johnston pick over the week in the lives of Stockport County fans, and discuss what role the weather may have played in pre match preparation.

Also discussed is usual “One to Watch” feature, the guys picking who could be this week’s key man for Stockport County.
