On the Pitch

The students take part in matchdays on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with eight separate teams competing at Stockport Sports Village. This gives our students a break from the classroom to play in a competitive league and develop their skills on the pitch.

The students have primarily focused on developing their technique this term, which is a fundamental aspect of any player’s game. Enhancing technique allows the players to play out of tricky situations and makes them vital assets to any team, setting them up in good stead for the future. Learning from former professional footballers, such as former County captain Paul Turnbull, the students have developed their technique to a high standard and can use this as a launchpad to start a successful career in sport.

Focusing on fitness is key to any sportsman’s career, and this has been another focus for our students on the pitch. The players have developed key fitness habits in training, which has been implemented through ‘rondos’, gym work in our ‘HIVE’ facility and sprints on the 3G pitches, imitating in-game scenarios.

Eight squads are in action throughout the week. Our first-year students have three squads that play on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and our second-year students have five squads to compete between, playing on the same days as the first years.
