Stockport County submits plans for Food Court to ease matchday pressures around the stands

Following a series of fan forums, Stockport County are bringing forward plans for an exciting new food court in a bid to ease congestion around the ground and long queues experienced by fans for its food and beverage kiosks.

Fans had aired concerns about long queue times pre-match and during half-time which would result in fans missing action on the pitch and spoiling the matchday experience. Despite trying to ease these pressures through additional staff, growing attendance figures mean that a long-term resolution hasn’t been possible.

Now Stockport County has brought forward plans for a dedicated food court which would be able to cater for up to 1,000 fans thanks to three shipping containers and a stretch tent, providing cover from Stockport’s unpredictable downpours along with trestle tables and seating. One of the containers will provide additional toilets including accessibility and baby changing facilities.

The food vendors will serve up a selection of locally sourced street food and drinks including craft beers, teas, coffees and award-winning pies, with the offering changing on rotation to provide plenty of opportunity to support local businesses and their amazing produce.

The area will only be open on match days to home fans with a ticket to the game, with a strict ‘challenge 25’ policy in operation, along with multiple SIA stewards. The food court will operate pre-match, at half-time and following the final whistle during a weekend game, easing the pressures felt by residents as fans arrive and leave Edgeley Park on mass. For mid-week matches, the fan zone will close before the final whistle.

Jonathan Vaughan, Stockport County CEO said:

“We’re incredibly excited to bring forward plans for the County Food Court – we know that creating a fantastic matchday experience goes beyond what happens on the pitch and we need to do everything we can to welcome fans into Edgeley Park and keep them coming back so we can grow the Club for generations to come.”
