Stockport County launch the Club’s Education Pathway Vision

Last week, Stockport County Football Club were delighted to launch its new and exciting vision for creating an extensive ‘Education Pathway’ for local young people to raise aspirations and support them in fulfilling their potential.

Stockport County places huge value on having a positive effect on the lives of people in the local area and is committed to providing engaging, high quality education programmes and pathways with the ultimate aim of facilitating progression to career-focused education and training that lead to greater employment opportunities.

The pathway will build on the success of the club’s Football Education programmes, which this year supported over 45 college leavers to transition to university courses, as well as the new schools’ programme launched by Stockport County Community Trust. This will be delivered for free in over 50 local primary and secondary schools during the 23/24 academic year thanks to the support of club sponsor, Together Finance.

The Education Pathway vision was launched at an event at Edgeley Park last week which was attended by a wide variety of Stockport schools, businesses and third sector organisations and partners alongside the MP for Stockport, Navendu Mishra. The publication ‘Raising Aspirations and Fulfilling Potential’ sets out how the club as a whole will further develop the provision it offers across all age groups. This includes widening the study programmes it provides for 16–19-year-olds that focus on sports career pathways as well as a university offer for students to progress to a higher education course with the club which will provide a unique range of work-based learning opportunities.

Ken Knott, Stockport County Football Club chairman commented on the new initiative:

“It was fantastic to welcome so many people to Edgeley Park for the launch of our Education Pathway vision. We believe that the vision for an evolving and wide-reaching education pathway demonstrates the club’s ambition to create a local football club that is at the heart of the community.

Our ambition is to create a pathway which positively contributes to the lives of people in Stockport, especially those who are disadvantaged and from the most deprived backgrounds. Our bold and aspirational vision will seek to impact thousands of young people across the borough each year and create a platform for them to thrive, achieve and progress.

The launch of the vision is only just the beginning of the pathway and there is further work the club will now be undertaking to ensure our vision becomes a reality. This includes working with local businesses and education partners that we hope will develop our education offer over the coming months and years”.
